As is the case with most creative types I would say I've always had a creative tool in hand. I recall being a five year old trying to draw my favourite Rugby players (ah the origins are revealed, yes I'm from South Africa) and not stopping until I felt it looked professional! Always asking for more paint sets and crayons for every birthday! During my time spent in High School I gravitated to anything creative, in particular photography and media based classes. As soon as I tossed the grad cap, I registered my first company and started taking on clients that needed photography, web or print materials.
After about a year of freelancing and learning the ropes via trial and error, I decided to go back to school and thus I joined BCIT's New Media and Web Development program. During my time there I realized my strong suit was creating for web, and using my extra design and communication skills to create content and supporting media for web. Soon after graduating BCIT with Honours in 2010, I got hired at ClearlyContacts.ca and started what I can honestly say as one of the most exciting times of my life! I have been lucky enough to have my work showcased in The Washington Post, my site interface featured in a CNN interview and some promotional materials presented on Good Morning America among other networks.
In the most recent months, I was chosen by design agency Cooper in San Francisco to attend a UX Boot Camp where I got to work with NPR and Money Place Market to do user research, UX design and pitch work. This was an incredible experience, which I began translating in all future projects for ClearlyContacts.ca - scheduling usability studies, gathering demographic data and researching to ensure we constantly innovate the eCommerce space in Canada and worlwide.
